Cut and run

It really should come as no surprise that to many Democrats Iraq is little different than Vietnam. Sen. John Kerry, demonstrating that his "plan" for Iraq when he ran for president in 2004 was nothing of the sort, earlier this week joined the Democrats' cut-and-run caucus.

Kerry, who voted to give President Bush authorization to use force against Saddam Hussein in 2002, said he would attach an amendment to this summer's defense appropriations bill calling for a total withdrawal of U.S. combat troops by the end of this year.

So, if you were wondering before, when Kerry said "plan" he really meant "lose."

The timing of Kerry's maneuver is also curious. Do the Democrats really want to remind the American people so close to the midterm elections that they're weak on national security? Democrats have a golden opportunity this fall, but legislation like this will only alienate the middle-of-the-road voters that Democrats must have to win.
