Weighing the candidates

I was asked the following question a couple of weeks back and I think everyone deserves an answer: "Is there anything you think John McCain's done wrong or Barack Obama's done right?"

Things I think McCain's done wrong -- in no particular order:

  • His continued opposition to drilling in ANWR.
  • McCain-Feingold (campaign finance "reform")
  • McCain-Kennedy (failed comprehensive immigration reform)
  • Expressed desire to shut down Gitmo and move all those terrorists to where activist judges can free them more easily.
  • His (since reversed) opposition to the Bush tax cuts (because they're not sufficiently targeted to the poor. For the record, if he'd opposed them on fiscal responsibility grounds, it wouldn't be on this list.)
  • The Gang of 14.

Things I think Barack Obama has done right:

...

...

Let's rephrase that. Things Barack Obama has done:

...

....

I think I'm with The Washington Post's liberal columnist Richard Cohen on that one. It's not so much what Obama's done -- he's done nothing -- it's what he says he wants to do.
