What torture looks like

Documents found in an Al Qaeda safe house illustrate what torture really is, for those who are confused (e.g. Andrew Sulliivan, Amnesty International).

Warning, the pictures are disturbing. A Fox News report yesterday suggested that the reason for the pictures and not simply written instructions may be twofold: First, the Al Qaeda recruits may be illiterate. Second, if they can read, they may speak a variety of languages.

The last few photos are the backs of tortured Iraqis rescued by U.S. forces. They are reminiscent of photographs of beaten slaves.

It kinda makes the overhyped worries about waterboarding and cold or hot rooms with the La-Z-Boy recliner pale in comparison.
