Politics above all

Buried in the latest Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll is a question that reveals that the leftists who used to blame America first, now hate America first.

19. Do you personally want the Iraq plan President Bush announced last week to succeed?
Yes No (Dont know)
16-17 Jan 07 63% 22 15
Democrats 51% 34 15
Republicans 79% 11 10
Independents 63% 19 17

Just about everyone agrees that President Bush's troop surge plan is his last, best shot at achieving something resembling a victory in Iraq. Wishing for failure in this is indistinguishable from wishing for the United States to lose the war.

More than 1/3 of Democrats want Bush to fail, and the United States to lose. Sadly, 11 percent of Republicans and 19 percent of independents feel the same way.

Acceptable forms of political thought (though with varying levels of integrity):

  • Opposing the president's plan to send more troops.
  • Wanting to "redeploy" the troops to Okinawa.
  • Wanting even more troops sent into Iraq.

Unacceptable forms of political thought:

  • Wanting the United States to lose in Iraq.
