There are people who are born-again Christians who voted for John Kerry two weeks ago. Whatever the reasons for voting for Kerry, it seems moderately masochistic with the way the elite of the Democratic Party demean and bad-mouth them. The latest case in point is Mr. Lake Wobegon himself, Garrison Keillor.

Not one to shy away from speaking his mind, Keillor proposed a solution to what he deemed a fundamental problem with U.S. elections. “I’m trying to organize support for a constitutional amendment to deny voting rights to born-again Christians,” Keillor smirked. “I feel if your citizenship is in Heaven—like a born again Christian’s is—you should give up your citizenship. Sorry, but this is my new cause. If born again Christians are allowed to vote in this country, then why not Canadians?”

As UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh points out, try the swapping in Catholic/Pope or Jew/Israel in Keillor's tirade and see if it doesn't qualify as hate speech on most college campuses.

They haven't learned that it's not beneficial to your cause to treat a vast portion of the American people like second-class citizens -- or more accurately in this case -- non-citizens.
