About that new tone

Monday afternoon in Detroit, 20 minutes before President Barack Obama took the stage, Teamsters President James Hoffa exhorted the crowd to “take these [Tea Party] son of a bitches out.”

At the ballot box, of course.

This martial, some might say “violent” rhetoric, has been a staple of American politics almost since the beginning. People claiming that it’s gotten worse in recent years are historically ignorant.

What this incident really illustrates, once again is the utter hypocrisy of the Democrats.

It wasn’t eight months ago that we were being lectured on civility and just in the past few weeks we’ve had Rep. Maxine Waters saying that Tea Partiers should “go to hell,” Rep. Andre Carson says that Tea Partiers want to lynch black people and the hits just keep on coming.

Yet Sarah Palin’s Facebook map “targeting” Democrats for electoral defeat was somehow incendiary?

Courtesy of ABC News’ Jake Tapper (via HotAir), presidential flack Jay Carney spells out the 2012 standard.

Lamest Excuse Evah.

For the record: Don’t expect the press corps to actually hold to this standard in 2012.

Oh, and a bit of bonus hate.
