A perfect description for Congress

Corrupt GOP Congressman Rick Renzi is attempting to hide behind the Constitution's speech and debate clause -- federal prosecutors are having none of it.

Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to deny retiring U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi's bid to have corruption charges against him dismissed on constitutional grounds.

Renzi's lawyers last month alleged that FBI agents violated the "speech or debate" clause of the U.S. Constitution by questioning his aides and secretly recording him in a call with one aide.

Prosecutors replied in court papers filed late last week that Renzi "distorts the intent and plain meaning" of the clause and argues in essence that he "is the fortunate denizen of a 'sanctuary for crime.'"

That's a pretty apt description.

In other criminal Congress news, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Democratic Rep. William "Cold Cash" Jefferson's claims of immunity too.

For the record, I still haven't discovered $90,000 in my freezer -- and I've looked.

  1. Renzi and Jefferson--two of the worst liberal illuminatis in Washington who want to apply the immunity clause to their cases! Renzi stole from his insurance company's clients to finance his first congressional campaign and Jefferson took hard, cold cash and now they both want to weasel out. I say give them the maximum penalty. Let them sit together in a cold, hard jail cell!
