Mike Wallace thinks he's working for MTV

CBS News' Mike Wallace interviewed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for this Sunday's "60 Minutes" episode. The interview apparently included this question:

Romney's wife, Ann, who converted to the Mormon Church before they were married, is also interviewed. When asked whether they broke the strict church rule against premarital sex, Romney says, "No, I'm sorry, we do not get into those things," but still managed to blurt out "The answer is no," before ending that line of questioning.

Welcome to the National Enquirer-ization of serious politics.

Questions for Mike Wallace:

What exactly is the relevance of that question other than an appeal to prurient interest?

Most Christian denominations also teach that pre-marital sex is wrong. Do you plan on asking other Christian candidates for public office about their sexual history? If not, why not?

Did you consider a follow-up question to clarify whether or not the Romneys understood the question in light of the Clinton-Oral-Sex exception? Why not?

Did you feel any responsibility for the decline in the esteem of the American people towards journalists before you asked that question? Did you feel any after?

How have those Depends diapers been working for you?

Isn't it about time you retired?
