Winter Soldier redux

For those of you, like me, too young to remember the Winter Soldier hearings, let me summarize: More than 35 years ago, Vietnam Veterans Against the War held hearings in Detroit where veterans testified to all sorts of atrocities and war crimes being committed by American troops in Vietnam. The vast majority of the "testimony" was either exaggerated, without basis in fact, or given by a "veteran" who had never served in the military.

Today we have similar groups and they use similar tactics. If you haven't heard of Jesse MacBeth, count yourself lucky, because he's been traveling around America at anti-war events claiming that he, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, along with all of his fellow soldiers were committing war crime after war crime. A Seattle-area filmmaker even made a documentary that was recently posted on a variety of Web sites (since excised) where MacBeth detailed his atrocities.

We would go into people's houses and plow down entire families. We would interrogate people. If we didn't like the answers that they gave, then we would kill the youngest child. If they gave more answers that we didn't like, then we'd move on to the rest of the family. They could've been innocent people.

We would leave the bodies in the streets and blame it on the Shi'ites or the Sunnis. [In Fallujah] we were ordered to go into mosques and slaughter people while they were praying. I won't go into full detail because I'm still haunted by the memories.

The problem, if you haven't already guessed, is that Jesse MacBeth is a fraud. [Smash has more.]

It just shows you how debilitating the hatred of America and the armed forces is on the loony left. How could anyone with half an ounce of skepticism buy into this guy's story? He claimed that it "was either the Army or jail" and that he signed up at 16 years old. The military doesn't take 16-year-olds and it certainly doesn't take people facing prison time. These are 35-year-old cliches.

True justice would be to force this punk to go through all of the training that he claims to have had -- special forces and Ranger training -- until he passes. No, he doesn't get paid. No, he doesn't get credit for actually serving in the military. Yes, he does have to wear his fake uniform throughout the training. No, he doesn't get to wash it.
