I'm trying to watch as "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace interviews Democrat vice-presidential wannabe Sen. John Edwards, and I just can't take it any more.

On Iraq, Edwards insisted that Saddam Hussein could've been taken care of using sanctions, despite the report by the Iraq Survey Group's Charles Duelfer that showed the "sanctions" were a joke -- instead of punishing Saddam, they were key to his maintaining power and corrupting the United Nations through bribes.

Then it gets worse.

Wallace confronts "Senator Gone" with his attendance record from the two committees of which he is a member:

and Edwards hasn't even served one full term in the Senate.

What is Edwards' response? He hasn't been able to make these meetings because he's been hanging outside power plants waving an air filter around. OK, that's not exactly what he said. Instead he attacked President Bush on the environment and clean air and clean water.

What in H-E-Double-Hockeysticks does that have to do with the American taxpayers paying you to do a job that you haven't bothered to show up for?

If this "experience" is supposed to qualify Edwards to be one heartbeat away from the presidency, then just about anybody else in the entire world is more qualified than Edwards. Heck, I'd prefer the office manager of Edwards' law firm before I'd take Edwards.

Edwards blames his absence on his realization that what really needed to be done was whatever it took to get President Bush out of the White House. If that's so, then why didn't you resign your seat so someone else can actually do the job?

Maybe I could try this line of Bolshevik Storytelling with my current employer.

Journalism in this country is in a very sorry state and the only way to fix it is to get CBS News' Dan Rather, Andrew Hewitt and Mary Mapes fired -- so I won't be showing up to work for the next year or so as I devote all of my time to the effort. Oh, yes, please continue to direct deposit my paychecks. Thanks.

Yeah, only in the public sector, and only with the taxpayers' money.
