Hoy for Public Editor?

Welcome Instapundit readers! If you're here to see who the heck this guy is who Glenn Reynolds nominated for Public Editor of the New York Times, take a look around and browse the Media category of posts.

A couple of Times-related posts that might be of interest:

  • Here I note newspapers that I wouldn't work for. The New York Times is on the list. Today I will amend that post. I would take the Public Editor post, if Bill Keller suffered a serious head injury and offered it. Why? Because it's independent from the newsroom and the tenure is limited. Of course, having me walking into the Times building would be like Ann Coulter walking into a Cindy Sheehan rally.
  • Second, the first thing I would do (after checking my office for IEDs planted by Times staffers) would be to rip the editorial page for its repeated lies when it comes to filibusters. That wouldn't be a pleasant experience for them to say the least and is probably reason enough for me never getting the job.

I'd also like to tip the cap to Charleston Daily Mail columnist Don Surber for identifying me as too tough a grader. That's undoubtedly true and it's probably a result of attending a non-Ivy League school where they didn't give out grades on the basis that you were actually able to get into the university in the first place.

The New York Times similarly shouldn't get a pass just because the journalists working there have managed to reach, for many, what would be the pinnacle of the journalism profession. They should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.
