The worst happened

I must say that I wasn't surprised to discover that the two U.S. soldiers who were kidnapped last week were found dead yesterday, their bodies mutilated and booby-trapped.

Not only were the bodies booby-trapped, but homemade bombs also lined the road leading to the victims, an apparent effort to complicate recovery efforts and target recovery teams, the sources said.

It took troops 12 hours to clear the area of roadside bombs. One of the bombs exploded, but there were no injuries.

These terrorists we are fighting are monsters, and this should be expected. We've seen this before -- the Japanese during World War II, the monsters in Somalia. If there was any doubt before in our soldiers' minds, it should be gone now: it's better to fight to the death than surrender and face an even worse fate.

Pray for these soldiers' families. And pray for the evil, hate-filled left-wing wackos over at the Daily Kos who feature such inspiring, uplifting diaries such as this one:

The bodies of the two captured U.S. soldiers were found in Iraq - bearing signs of "barbaric torture."

How quaint.

The wacko blames the soldiers' terrible fate on the non-existent "torture" going on at Gitmo and the failure of the U.S. to treat ununiformed terrorists who target civilians as members of a foreign military. This is foolishness at its most extreme. And just a week and a half ago senators Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid came to the annual convention of these wackos to pay homage.

If any Democratic presidential candidate is going to have a "Sister Souljah moment" in the 2008 campaign, I predict the new Sister Souljah will be Daily Kos. If a Democrat wants to prove they're serious about national security, then they're going to have to publicly repudiate this powerful and influential part of the base.

However, I don't think that there's a single Democrat whose name has been mentioned for 2008 who has the guts to stick their thumb in Kos' eye.
