Begging the boogeyman

If you’ve been paying any attention to the so-called progressive media (and The New York Times, but I repeat myself) for the past year or so, you’d know that the object of their shock and ire are Charles and David Koch, owners of Koch Industries. The Koch (pronounced Coke) brothers are of a conservative/libertarian bent and fund some organizations that share those ideals.

The left apparently saw how much fun the political right was having bashing George Soros and with imitation being the sincerest form of flattery… you know the rest. (Though, for the record, the Koch brothers’ donations are not nearly as substantial as those made by Soros.)

Amid all of this demagoguery, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee decided that it would be a good idea to ask the Koch brothers for some money to help elect more Democrats to the Senate.

Is Murray English for DeGaulle?

Needless to say, the Koch brothers were a little bemused at the request.

So you can imagine my chagrin when I got a letter from you on June 17 asking us to make five-figure contributions to the DSCC. You followed that up with a voicemail* indicating that, if we contributed heavily enough, we would garner an invitation to join you and other Democratic leaders at a retreat in Kiawah Island this September.

I’m hoping you can help me understand the intent of your request because it’s hard not to conclude that DSCC politics have become so cynical that you actually expect people whom you routinely denounce to give DSCC money.
