Like clockwork

Every four years, Democrats go down to Florida, where all the retired seniors are, and wave the bloody flag of evil Republicans wanting to take away Social Security.

Yesterday, Sen. Barack Obama followed suit.

Sen. Barack Obama told voters in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Saturday that if Sen. John McCain became president, he would privatize their Social Security.

It's a debate over the program that could resurface as a major issue in the closing weeks of the campaign, given the wild swings in financial markets.

"If my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would've had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week. Millions would've watched as the market tumbled and their nest egg disappeared before their eyes," he said.

"I know Sen. McCain is talking about a 'casino culture' on Wall Street, but the fact is, he's the one who wants to gamble with your life savings, and that is not going to happen when I'm president. When I'm president, we're not going to gamble with Social Security."

This is a lie. From the beginning, to the middle, to the end, it's a lie.

If your "life savings" is Social Security -- you're doing it wrong!

Also note that the media that's so anxious to highlight anytime McCain shades the truth is silent on Obama's whopper and included only the prefunctory denial from the McCain campaign in the story.

Three paragraphs of Obama's fearmongering. One sentence for McCain.

On a related note: Not to sugarcoat the billions of dollars that it's going to cost taxpayers to bail out all these companies, but if your money was in a Dow Index fund this week was a rollercoaster, but you probably didn't lose any money.

As Drudge noted: "DOW UP 40 POINTS IN PAST MONTH... UP 18% PAST 5 YEARS... UP 44% PAST 10 YEARS..."

That's a better return than you'll get from Social Security.

  1. Not just in Florida. I'm sure my wife will hear from her mother (82 years old, lives in Illinois. Coal-miners-union Democrat since the Truman administration.) before this evening is over about how John McCain is trying to take her SS away.
