Rich Noyes and Brent Baker have noted how many media outlets have treated disgraced New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's party affiliation in their coverage this week. Baker reported that the "NBC Nightly News" never mentioned he was a Democrat, ABC's "World News Tonight" didn't mention any party affiliation Monday or Tuesday, but finally did Wednesday. CBS was hit-and-miss depending on what program it was.
Noyes contrasted that record on Spitzer with how the media unfailingly labeled Republican Sens. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig and David "DC Madam" Vitter.
The labeling of politicians by political party -- especially for partisan offices -- is Journalism 101. The media's systematic, one-sided failure to do so when the embarrassing pol is a Democrat is the worst, and most painfully obvious case of bias.
Journalism. Wound. Self-inflicted.
