Courtesy of Patterico comes this story about a lawyer and his pants. The lawyer took his suit pants to a dry cleaners and they lost them. It happens. But then the lawyer sued -- and what a lawsuit it is. He wants $67 million. For one pair of pants. How does he come up with this figure?

According to court papers, here's how Pearson calculates the damages and legal fees:

He believes he is entitled to $1,500 for each violation, each day during which the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign and another sign promising "Same Day Service" was up in the store -- more than 1,200 days.

And he's multiplying each violation by three because he's suing Jin and Soo Chung and their son.

He also wants $500,000 in emotional damages and $542, 500 in legal fees, even though he is representing himself in court.

He wants $15,000 for 10 years' worth of weekend car rentals as well.

And the kicker to this wacko lawyer story? The guy took the bench today for the first time as an admistrative law judge.

This lawsuit has been going on for two years -- it should've gone on for two minutes. The lawyer should be disbarred. In fact, all of the judges who have dealt with this case seriously over the past two years should have to attend some sort of training in common sense for not having thrown this lawsuit out the second it appeared in court.

And lawyers wonder why their profession isn't more respected.
