98 percent of lawyers...

...give the rest a bad name. Yes, it's an old joke but it's strangely appropriate in light of a lawsuit filed today in Detroit. A bunch of "civil rights leaders" are suing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice claiming they failed to protect Americans who happened to be vacationing in what became a war zone two weeks ago.

And that's not all. If the recent Hamdan decision is any guide, then maybe the courts will issue a couple of the more outrageous remedies the plaintiffs are suing for.

The lawsuit also seeks a court order directing Rice and Rumsfeld to work for a cease-fire, so U.S. citizens can leave. It also seeks a halt to U.S. shipments of missiles to Israel, to discourage the continuing bombardment while U.S. citizens remain on the ground.

Yep, let's put the courts in charge of foreign policy.

The court clerk should've laughed this one out of the courthouse and ordered the lawyers to pay a few thousand bucks for wasting the court's time.

I can see the follow-on lawsuits now: Drunk teenager in Mexico has his wallet stolen -- sues Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for failing to protect him from pickpockets.
