The New York Times' Paul Krugman has been reliving what might have been. It's 2005, and Krugman is still sore about the 2000 presidential election. I'll be the first to acknowledge that more Floridians went to the polls in 2000 intending to vote for Al Gore. The problem is ... how do I put this nicely ... there are more moronic Democrats than there are idiot Republicans.

One of Krugman's chief complaints is the infamous butterfly ballot. What he never mentions is the person who designed that ballot was a Democrat. Republicans must've been using mind-control rays. Democrats should always remember to wear their tinfoil hats at all times to prevent things like this from happening.

What's really interesting is that Krugman's Monday column doesn't include a correction. The offending statement is this:

Miami County (Ohio) reported that voter turnout was an improbable 98.55 percent of registered voters.

If you go to the Ohio Secretary of State's Web site and look up the 2004 election turnout by county you find this:

County	Precincts (#)	Registered voters	Votes cast	Turnout (%)
Miami	82	72,169	52,104	72.20

Well, 72.2 percent is a good turnout, but it's not 98.55. This is something that newspapers often quickly correct, however based on prior history, I'm not holding my breath. I'd alert the Times' public editor, but again, why waste my time -- Calame is far less responsive than his predecessor ever was.
