Whose safety is more important?

Today, two big hypocrites held a joint press conference at the White House. President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon took the opportunity to come together in a spirit of anti-Americanism to blast Arizona’s new immigration law.

We don’t need to go into the fact that Mexico treats illegal immigrants in its country far worse than any Mexican has ever been treated in the United States and Mexico’s laws are far more draconian than those in the U.S.

Instead, I want to highlight this bit of hypocrisy on the part of President Obama.

The White House appears to be laying the groundwork for President Barack Obama to shake the hand of each senior at Kalamazoo Central High School’s commencement ceremony next month.

Seniors are being asked to provide their birthdates, Social Security numbers and citizen status to the Secret Service so background checks could be performed. Such a check is required for anyone who gets within an arm’s length of the president, students were told at their senior breakfast Friday.

“Citizen status?” *Fake German accent on* President Obama’s Secret Service wants your papers! *Fake German accent off*

Why would the Secret Service ask for “citizen status?” For a very good, practical reason – illegal immigrants may have broken something in addition to immigration laws and could present a danger to the chief executive.

Of course, Arizona residents can’t expect the same level of safety and security afforded the president. But it shouldn’t be beyond the pale to allow Arizona residents some security.
