Yesterday, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and California Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced they would support Attorney General-nominee Michael Mukasey.
Schumer was backed into this corner after he had tossed Mukasey's name out as an acceptable nominee while the president was deciding on his pick. Not even he thought the waterboarding canard was sufficient cover for turning on Mukasey.
Feinstein, for the second time in the past few weeks, has demonstrated that she's not in the thrall of the lunatic left. First, she voted for the confirmation of appeals court judge Leslie Southwick, both in committee and on the floor, and now she's become the deciding vote moving Mukasey out of the Judiciary Committee. Good for her.
