He knows of what he speaks

CNN's Jack Cafferty is an angry, old, curmudgeonly liberal. Cafferty's short opinion and e-mail segments take place during CNN's "Situation Room" hosted by Wolf Blitzer (at least, that's when I see them).

Cafferty's recurring role during what is ostensibly supposed to be an unbiased newscast is decidedly left-leaning and makes the assertions that CNN is down-the-middle while Fox News leans right laughable.

Case in point is today's "Cafferty File" where Cafferty weighed in on the "military papers" (they aren't, they're owned by Gannett) that ran editorials calling for Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld's resignation. After quoting the editorials, Cafferty added his own insightful commentary which CNN is undoubtedly paying him too much for.

They didn’t even mention that he’s [Rumsfeld] also an obnoxious jerk and a war criminal.

Well, seeing how Cafferty is an obnoxious jerk, I'm confident that he can identify others of his ilk. As to the war criminal claim, it's one the loonies over at Democrat Underground love to throw around for Republicans everywhere, but let's just say that the vast majority of the American people -- including the large middle politically -- think that such commentary is ludicrous.

I'm not saying that Cafferty doesn't have a place at CNN, but the role to which they've relegated them creates a real left-wing bias. That CNN doesn't seem concerned about it says a lot about the network's commitment to fairness.
