She was what?

If the mess that President Bill Clinton left this nation's foreign policy and national security in when he left office wasn't obvious on Sept. 11, 2001, then former Secretary of State Madeline Albright is determined to make sure that you remember it -- just not the way she intends.

Albright was selling her book, "The Mighty & the Almighty," in Seattle yesterday when she provided us with some naivete on an astounding level.

Whereas the United States should help other nations, it should remember that "democracy is a policy, not a mission," Albright said, and there is "no divine calling to spread democracy."

There may not be a "divine calling" per se to spread democracy, but doesn't it become apparent after reading the New Testament that the personal and religious freedom that is inherent in a democracy is the form of government most compatible with Christianity?

And what in the h-e-double hockeysticks has happened to the Democrat Party when its last secretary of state is panning democracy?

And she comments on this week's nutty letter by Iranian "President" Mahmoud Ahmadinnerjacket.

Albright believes that someone high in the Bush administration should give a speech in response to the recent letter sent to the president by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The letter criticizes U.S. foreign policy in a number of areas, including the war in Iraq and backing of Israel.

Though difficult to hear, the issues raised are "not irrelevant," said Albright, who served under President Clinton. "Rather than thinking it's a clash of civilizations, I think we are in a battle of ideas."

Let's recall what some of those ideas recounted in Ahmadinnerjacket's letter were:

That U.S. intelligence services were behind the 9/11 attacks.

That Israel has no right to exist.

That the holocaust just might not have happened.

That democracy has failed and theocracies are the best form of government.

Someone hit her with a clue-by-four. This is not serious a serious discussion.

  1. Everyone in DC and around the world knew that Madeleine Albright is known as "Not-so-Bright." She may think she is smart, but those of us who talked about what a whacko she is knew that when Clinton named her to replace Warren "Really Big Eyebrows" Christopher, that Clinton was basically giving up any hope of foreign policy successes.

That Clinton was a failure of a President is not a shock. That Ms. Albright is a dim bulb is also not a surprise. But that the American people elected that team of doofi to 8 years in control of this country still amazes many of us.
