  1. Back in 1999, I spent the year (not fulltime!) tracking the predictions of Elizabeth Joyce, a Web 'psychic,' who had had the poor judgment to post voluminous predictions for the coming year, many with definite dates! Things like Saddam Hussein launching a gas attack on Israel... The Great East Coast Earthquake, followed by the Even Greater West Coast Earthquake... The explosion of Mt. Fuji, Mt. St. Helens and a third volcano to be named later... Al Gore's accession to the Oval Office... The death of Pope John Paul II before year's end...

As the year wore on, her 'predictions' began vanishing into cyberspace one by one. In December, I tallied up the results and decided she was pretty good at picking Oscar winners. And not much else.

  2. And come Sunday, it will be further changed to read "48 business hours"?
