A lot of Gitmo critics have pooh-poohed the idea that we could be getting any sorts of useful information from the terrorists at the facility since they've been there now for three-plus years. That much time out of circulation makes whatever information they may have next to useless, critics claim.
However, Fox News reporter Molly Hennenberg made an interesting point just moments ago on "Special Report with Brit Hume." Hennenberg was among the reporters who accompanied a congressional delegation to the base this past weekend and an analyst told her that one of the prisoners was giving them some good, new information.
How can that be?
According to Hennenberg, three years of the U.S. war on terror has killed numerous al Qaeda figures, resulting in lower-level operatives rising through the ranks. One of the captured terrorists knew one of these foot-soldiers who has now become a terrorist leader. This guy wasn't on the U.S. radar three years ago, but is now -- and the interrogations are helping us learn more about this terrorist.
Gitmo is still providing us with intelligence we need. Shutting it down for PR purposes doesn't help protect America.
