Balanced coverage

We already know The New York Times is a liberal newspaper -- the paper's public editor, Daniel Okrent, admitted it just a few short weeks ago. But Okrent also said that he would have to wait until this year's election is over before passing judgment on the paper's political coverage.

Well, look no further:

Note the first and third items. The headline and lead paragraph of the Sen. John Kerry story are neutral at worst. The headline on the President Bush piece is decidedly negative. Kerry's front porch chats are "low-key campaigning", while Bush's are an exercise in fielding "softballs."

Nope, no bias here.
