Berkeley failing to educate its students is nothing new.

There are two top-tier architecture programs in California: Berkeley and my alma mater, Cal Poly SLO. I had a couple of friends who were in the architecture program. (Both of them were extremely intelligent, and one of them was really cute. Her name was Dove. I used to call her Dove Bar. But I digress.)

One of the stories about the two rival programs that Cal Poly architecture profs loved to tell was that there was a period during the 1960s when Berkeley was graduating a lots of architects who could design incredible buildings -- but they wouldn't stand up.

That's right, they would look good on paper, but the second you tried to erect the buildings, it became apparent there was a big hole in their knowledge base.
