National Review's Byron York reports that Senate Democrats have missed another opportunity to ask circuit court nominee Miguel Estrada any new questions. White House counsel Alberto Gonzales had offered Democrats (actually, any Senator for that matter) another opportunity to submit written questions to Estrada with a deadline of last Friday. Estrada would answer them over the weekend and Democrats would have had the information they say they need to make an informed decision today.
Well, Friday came and went and not one question was submitted. Estrada can't answer questions when he isn't given any.
Some of the "gentlemanly" conduct of the Senate needs to give way. The next time a Democratic senator says that Estrada hasn't answered the questions posed to him, Republicans should call them on the carpet -- even using the term "liar" when appropriate.
