Well, the Chinese government has released their annual report on the state of human rights in the United States. I suspect that China was simply trying to save money, by just changing the words in the U.S. report on human rights in China.

According to the Chinese, human rights in the U.S. have continued to deteriorate.

The United States is "wantonly infringing upon human rights of other countries" with military and political actions.

American mass media are "inundated with violent content," which in turn encourages more violence. "A culture beautifying violence has made young people believe that the gun can `solve' all problems," the report says.

Racism and discrimination continue unabated.

Police brutality, torture and forced confession "are common," and death row is full of "misjudged or wronged" inmates. Prisons are overcrowded and inhumane.

Americans living in poverty are "the forgotten `third world' within this superpower," and the gap between rich and poor is growing.

Violence against women and sexual abuse of children are common. It cited sexual molestations of children by American clergy, calling that "the greatest scandal in the United States following the Enron case."

This story doesn't get much play in the major media in the United States, merely because criticism on human rights from the Chinese government is like a sumo wrestler lecturing Calista Flockheart on her weight. The Chinese government must embark on a 12-step program for political and religious reform. The first step is admitting you have a problem. China hasn't taken the first step, and until they do, we have to be on guard. Bush hasn't named China as part of the axis of evil, but the Chinese government is evil. It tortures and kills its people. It exports missile and nuclear technology to other countries.China is evil, and we must do what we can to bring freedom to that country. The Chinese people deserve democracy. They want democracy. The United States must be supportive. The United States must speak out.
