Juno

I just got back from seeing the final showing of "Juno" at the local theater. Total number of people in the theater, including yours truly: Five.

Juno's gotten a lot of press, both pro and con, because it takes the "unrealistic" and "controversial" plot of a teen faced with an unplanned pregnancy choosing to have the baby.

The movie has been nominated for a handful of Oscars, and it deserves them. The dialogue is witty even though it is at times coarse. Ellen Page does an excellent job as the title character. The characters are real, not caricatures. They sound and act like real people act. The soundtrack also gets a thumbs-up. (It reminded me quite a bit of some stuff from Billy Bragg and Wilco.)

If you haven't seen it yet, I encourage you to check it out.
