There's a discussion going on over at Poynter's Web site about the use of salty language in America's newsrooms. I'm linking to one letter that I found hilarious, but it is absolutely R-rated -- for that reason the letter is after the jump.
From Ed Murrieta:
When I was an intern at the Point Reyes Light (summer '85), I entered the newsroom to hear editor David V. Mitchell yelling at a source on the telephone. The source, Margo St. James, a prostitute's rights advocate in San Francisco, had called to complain about the use of the word hooker in a headline (Hooker's body dumped in seashore.) She felt the word was inappropriate. Mitchell said: "Goddamnit, Margo. Your brain's gone crazy from sucking too many syphilitic cocks. Don't call me again." My education has been downhill since.
