Jesus' bones

This Sunday the Discovery Channel is putting on a "documentary" that purports to offer definitive proof that Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene, had a son named Judah, died and had his bones entombed in an ossuary.

Let me start by saying that if all this were true, then Christianity is a hoax and should be abandoned. Despite what some may say, you cannot lose the death and resurrection of Christ and still have the Christian religion. If that were true, Jesus becomes nothing more than a moral philosopher. Period.

This Discovery Channel special is a work of fiction. Dan Brown's "The DaVinci Code" proved that a good (though formulaic, if you've read any of his other books) story mixing conspiracy and Christianity can make money. Director James Cameron and his colleague Simcha Jacobovici are simply in this to make a buck.

For insight into the numerous flaws of this crockumentary, check out Scot McKnight's Jesus Creed for two short, easy and damning problems and for a more exhaustive look, Ben Witherington's post here is helpful.
