I just got finished watching the Santorum/Casey debate on this morning's "Meet the Press" on NBC. Yes, I'm biased, but I think Santorum won this one in a rout.
The part of the debate that really got my blood boiling was Casey's willful obfuscation on Social Security reform. Casey repeated the Paul Krugman/John Kerry lines that by repealing the tax cuts for the top 1 percent and "growing the economy" we could solve the fatal demographic flaw in Social Security.
It's apparent that we're not going to reform Social Security -- whether that's some sort of means-testing, private accounts, raising taxes, lowering benefits, raising the retirement age or some combination of all of them -- until it starts really busting the budget sometime in the 2020s.
*UPDATE* For those interested a transcript and video clips of the debate can be found here.
