The Muslim world is up in arms (figuratively to start...the literal is to come) over comments made by Pope Benedict XVI.
The pope quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th-century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and a Persian scholar on the truths of Christianity and Islam.
"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," Benedict said. "He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"
The pope did not explicitly agree with nor repudiate the comment.
The Muslim world's recent denunciation of the forced conversions of journalists Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig at gunpoint prove that Pope Benedict XVI's statement is false. Of course, I might be wrong about that whole denunciation thing.
In the coming days there will be attacks on Christians (which may have already started at a Greek Orthodox church in the Gaza Strip), riots and lots of people left dead by the "religion of peace." It doesn't take much to prove the Pope correct.
And it's not as though Muslims are considerate or respectful when they talk about other religions.
"If Jesus were here, he'd be a Muslim, and he'd say what I'm saying," [Eric Meek, vice president of the Council on American-Islamic Relations] said.
Well, being wrong about religion isn't a crime ... except in the Muslim world.
