I've commented before on the anti-Christian undercurrents at too many of the nation's universities. Well, here's news from the University of Wisconsin refusing to recognize -- or derecognizing previously recognized -- Christian groups in defiance of federal law.
Apparently, the administrators at Wisconsin are being advised on this issue by the Judicial Equality Foundation.
Blogger David French over at NRO online has received a letter from the Judicial Equality Foundation:
Mr. French,
Our organization is dedicated to World peace (sic) through non-violent means. One of the principal sources of violence and abuse is Deuteronomy 13:6-11.
Our research has disclosed that the organizations identified at the end of your letter of August 4, 2006 . . . Use either the Torah or Bible as their source document. As we believe you know, those materials include Deuteronomy 13:6-11. Until those organizations repudiate those verses and all others like them in their source materials, they do not have a legal right to exist, much less be approved for consumption by young adults on college campuses.
We request that your organization withdraw its demand for recognition of those organizations or, in the alternative, should suit be brought, that we be provided notice so that we may petition the court to present the relevant facts and applicable law for consideration.
There is no word on whether the JEF is going after Muslim student groups for far worse passages in the Koran, but that's probably not politically correct. The lawyer in charge of the JEF is a William S. Scott -- he's apparently got a law degree from the bottom of a cereal box. The guy should be disbarred for being stupid. The administrators who are following his legal advice should be fired for listening to him. The law school that awarded him his law degree should be shut down for fraud.
