Media law review

Editor & Publisher, the publication I just love to beat up, has a brief on a lawsuit by wacky Rep. Cynthia McKinney's libel suit against the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I love this bit:

Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney filed charges against the newspaper's editor Cynthia Tucker and publisher John Mellott for an editorial column that ran in the Sunday July 30 paper about McKinney’s alleged altercation with police, according to All Headline News.

McKinney has admitted an altercation took place -- so the altercation itself needs no "alleged" before it. Also to note is that McKinney "filed" a lawsuit -- libel is a civil charge, not a criminal one -- she didn't file "charges," that's done by a prosecutor.

*UPDATE* E&P got it wrong. It's now reporting that no lawsuit has actually been filed.
