And be downright shocked by how out of touch they are. I watched today's "Meet the Press" and was amazed at the holier-than-thou attitude demonstrated by everyone on the panel with the exception of Bill Bennett. If I were a J-school student watching that, then the most encouraging thing about a career in journalism -- at least according to the highly-paid out of touch journos -- is that when you become a journalist you're above the law.
Seriously, former New York Times columnist Bill Safire -- allegedly a conservative-leaning guy -- was of the opinion that newspapers cannot be held responsible for what they publish.
Powerline has an audio feed from the show and I encourage you to listen, if you missed it yesterday.
The one bit of sanity from one of the MSM-ers on the panel was the Wall Street Journal's John Harwood who conceded Bennett's point that the majority of Americans are not on the mainstream media's side on this one. I'd also note, for those like Eric Alterman who like to point out that the Wall Street Journal is editorially conservative, Harwood made the point that the newsroom of the Journal is far more like the newsroom and editorial page of the New York Times than it is like the Journal's editorial page.

I'll grant Bill Safire's assertion, as long as he accepts that his critics have the same non-liability toward what they publish, regardless of medium.
And Bill Safire will do so, when my sale of prime Black Hills real estate at the foot of Mount Rushmore goes through to the lowest bidder.
