More dishonest journalism

Today's journalistic malpractice comes to us courtesy of the "Today" show (via Newsbusters).

In a little intro to an interview with Chevron CEO David O'Reilly, "Today" broke down the costs of a gallon of gas -- sorta. You can follow the previous link to see a couple of the images, but these are the "facts" as presented by the "journalists" over at NBC.

Crude oil cost: $1.67

Refining, Transportation and Profit: $0.78

Taxes $0.44.

Why in the heck would you lump refining and transportation, which are costs, with profit? Is that because you don't want to demonstrate how little their profit really is on each gallon -- especially when compared to all of those taxes?

It's just dishonest, substandard, advocacy journalism. And journalists wonder why they're held in such disdain?
