Barroid Bonds

The Giants juiced-up left fielder Barroid Bonds got a well-deserved, vicious welcome during Monday's season opener here in San Diego. Bonds continues to deny a mountain of evidence that shows he used a plethora of steroids and other designer drugs to bulk up and improve his home run hitting.

Bonds and his (few) defenders like to note that steroids don't improve the necessary hand-eye coordination for hitting Major League pitching. However, this avoids the obvious fact that if you're born with the necessary hand-eye coordination, an extra 30 pounds of muscle will turn singles and doubles into home runs.

Why do I bring this up? Because uncontrovertible evidence of Bonds' guilt has surfaced -- Jesse Jackson is defending him.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says Major League Baseball and San Diego police failed to protect Barry Bonds and should be trying to find out who threw a syringe at him Monday night.

The object was thrown near the Giants leftfielder as he left the field following the eighth inning in San Diego. Bonds picked up the syringe -- about the size of a magic marker -- and carried it off the field.

"That fan should have been arrested," Jackson said. "That object could have had a needle in it. It could have hit him. The commissioner of baseball must be outspoken in protecting any players whose lives are in jeopardy."

Thanks Jesse for clearing that up.
