Silence of the journos

Friday evening, just hours before the presidential debate, Matt Drudge broke a story on ABC News' double standard for the presidential candidates.

Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.

The memo was the lede story on Fox News' media show, "Fox News Watch," on Saturday. But come Monday morning, there is no mention of the flap over at Poynteronline -- journalism central.

Neither Poynter's "blog" by Jim Romenesko, nor the letters or memos section contain any mention of the ABC News memo.

For professional journalists, it simply never happened.

Journalists have a serious problem -- and we're not even willing to admit it.
