While there's been plenty of talk on the Hugh Hewitt show and postings around the blogosphere about CBS's fraudulent documents, there hasn't been much discussion about what CBS must do aside from running a correction.

Yes, a correction should be forthcoming -- a prominent one -- and sooner rather than later.

But that alone is not enough.

CBS has to reveal the source of the memos. Whoever provided the documents to CBS did it with an agenda -- and that source burned them -- big time. CBS can't maintain its journalistic integrity by simply disavowing the memos, they've got to out their "source" too. There is no possible justification for honoring a promise of confidentiality when the basis on which that agreement was reached is a lie.

Also, everything I've seen and heard suggests to me that CBS's document "expert" was "Bob" down in the mailroom. He handles hundreds of thousands of documents everyday, so he was eminently qualified to determine the veracity of the documents CBS came up with.

*UPDATE* CBS's West Coast feed of their nightly news program makes no mention of the charges that the Killian documents are fraudulent. Maybe tomorrow night. Maybe not.
