The fires burning in San Diego County have not yet required the evacuation of Hoystory World Headquarters in Escondido. The sky is filled with smoke and the smell permeates everything. I made a quick jaunt to the local grocery store to pick up some food and the Santa Ana winds nearly staggered me a time or two -- and that takes some serious doing.
If you're looking for information on the fire, I encourage you to periodically hit the refresh button over at the San Diego Union-Tribune's fireblog. It might take a few tries -- the site is getting hammered with traffic.
Right now, I'm curious about how I'm going to get into work tomorrow -- I-15 is closed and I have no idea how long, and if it's even possible, for me to make my way to the 78 West to I-5 South in a period of time less than 3 hours.
Leading up to this weekend there were warnings about the Santa Ana winds and dry conditions creating the basis for what could be a perfect firestorm and sure enough, that's what we get. It makes one wonder how many of these fires are mere accidents and how many are the work of arsonists.
