Prepare for a Sharkansky smackdown

Michael Waldman and Justin Levitt of the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law have an op-ed piece in today's Washington Post puncturing the "myth" of voter fraud in Washington State's 2004 gubernatorial election.

Or consider Washington state, where McKay closely watched the photo-finish gubernatorial election of 2004. A challenge to ostensibly noncitizen voters was lodged in April 2005 on the questionable basis of "foreign-sounding names." After an election there last year in which more than 2 million votes were cast, following much controversy, only one ballot ended up under suspicion for double-voting. That makes sense. A person casting two votes risks jail time and a fine for minimal gain. Proven voter fraud, statistically, happens about as often as death by lightning strike.

I encourage you to watch SoundPolitics.com today as the inevitable smackdown comes courtesy of Stefan Sharkansky who is the only person in the state of Washington who has actually investigated the voter fraud. The U.S. Attorney and the state's media wasn't really interested, after all the "right" candidate was elected.

Only one ballot was a double vote?

Data records indicate that 80 voters who returned both ballots had both ballots counted.

Heck, if you want to see how wrong Waldman and Levitt are, just run a search for "double voting" on the Sound Politics site.

As far as "proven" voter fraud happening so rarely, that's largely because no one's interested in investigating it.

*UPDATE* Sharkansky has answered and why am I not surprised that these two lawyers have common cause with ACORN -- a group infamous for fraudulent voter registration.
