Writing the headline without reading the story

Over at Slate they have a little explainer on hunting etiquette and it's quickly apparent that the headline writer didn't read the story.

First, the headline and subhed:

Does Dick Cheney Know How To Hunt?

What the veep needs to learn about shooting quail.

And now the story:

On Saturday, Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a hunting companion in the face and torso while hunting quail in Texas. According to news reports, Harry Whittington had left the group to retrieve a downed quail when Cheney struck his friend with a shotgun blast while firing at a covey of birds. Was Cheney guilty of violating hunting etiquette? Possibly—but Whittington almost certainly was.

However, the headline and subhed would go perfect with this story from the AP.

Vice President Dick Cheney apparently broke the No. 1 rule of hunting: Be sure of what you're shooting at.

It's nice to know that the press has its story straight.
