A month or two back I pointed out an article about union-hired temporary workers who were working eight-hour days outside in the hot sun of Las Vegas picketing WalMart. The union temps were being paid less than what they would've earned working at WalMart, and the vast majority of the WalMart employees worked inside the air-conditioned store.
It would've been really laughable if it weren't also so sad. Once again you had a union behaving worse than the corporation it was decrying.
Well, add to the hypocrisy The Nation magazine. That bastion of liberalism is looking for interns in New York City -- and paying $150 a week.
My first and only internship was at the then Donrey-owned Lompoc Record in 1993. I was paid $6 an hour -- $90 a week more than the Nation's interns. The sad thing was, Donrey had a reputation as being among the stingiest of newspaper companies in the nation.
You'd think that those who preach would hold themselves to a higher standard. OK, maybe not. However, I do like pointing out liberal hypocrisy whenever I can. Unlike evil, heartless Republicans, liberals are supposed to be better human beings.
