The world of sports

Mike Tyson quit last night's fight before the start of the seventh round after he lost two points because of an intentional head butt and a failed attempt to break his opponent's arm.

That's right, the same wacko who bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear, last night tried to intentionally break the arm of a journeyman fighter, Kevin McBride. Tyson is a sad, miserable man, who will come to a ugly end. Unlike most champion fighters, he's detested, rather than adored, and his future looks dim.

ESPN don't know sports: The latest power rankings from ESPN have the Padres at No. 7. That's probably appropriate considering their latest skid, but the little comment next to their number shows just how ignorant whoever is doing their rankings is.

Owner Tom Moores rankled some San Diegoans by being candid about his club's budget limitations. The good news is that the Padres look like a playoff team and there's still time before major decisions must be made.

The Padres' owner is John Moores, not Tom. Residents of San Diego are San Diegans, not San Diegoans.
