Where the outrage is

Salon's Eric Boehlert takes the occasion of the announcement of New York Times columnist William Safire's retirement to take him to task for decades of mistakes and inaccuracies.

I'm not going to defend Safire, he's certainly made errors and not corrected them, but Boehlert's outrage is conspicuously constrained to Safire. The problem Boehlert describes is hardly limited to Safire -- it is systemic at the Times.

Boehlert might garner more support for his crusade if he'd acknowledge that errors and an unwillingness to correct them isn't limited to conservatives.
