The big news at yesterday's Scrabble Championship was one participant's use of a slang term for lesbian: "lez." Though it is a word, it is on Scrabble's naughty list -- not to be used in a tournament aired on ESPN.
What I found particularly amusing, however, was another naughty word -- one that apparently wasn't used during the tournament.
Eric Chaiken, a tournament participant and director of Word Wars, a documentary about the Scrabble championship, said the definition of "offensive" was open to interpretation.
"The ultimate absurdity is that you can't play the word 'redskins' on ESPN," he said.
Yep, but how are you supposed to get enough letters to spell "NFL team from the Washington area"?
