Tonight's debate

I'll be at work tonight as the debate occurs, so there will be no live-blogging of it here. For those of you who are early risers on the East Coast or insomniacs on the West, I'll have some comments in the wee hours of the morning. Some thoughts on what to look for: For President […]

A good read

It comes as no surprise that the federal courts would not reconsider Roe v. Wade, but Shannen W. Coffin over at National Review reports that something positive came out of the exercise. What was surprising, though, was Judge Edith Jones powerful five-page separate opinion. While Judge Jones agreed that the court had no power to […]

That liberal media

You know it's bad when they won't even try to fake it any more. National Review's Ramesh Ponnuru reports on an e-mail response from Reuters to a press release sent out by the National Right to Life committee. What's your plan for parenting & educating all the unwanted children you people want to bring into […]

Abortion for all the wrong reasons

On Monday, I saw several blogs linking to this article in the Sunday New York Times Magazine. The article describes the thought process of a woman who, when she discovered she was carrying triplets, decided that one was enough. The doctor had just finished telling me I was going to have a low-risk pregnancy. She […]

Kerry confuses me

By now this is old news -- sort of -- but last weekend Sen. John Kerry came out with a statement that had me dumbstruck. Kerry and I disagree on a lot of things -- most things -- but on this we agree: I oppose abortion, personally. I don't like abortion. I believe life does […]

Corrupting the language

Remember those suits filed by abortion providers against the law banning partial birth abortion? Remember all of the euphemisms the "doctors" used to describe the process? "Disarticulation," "render unpregnant," etc.? Don't forget this is what we're talking about. The "product of conception" is a baby.

Good point

National Review's Rich Lowry makes a good point on the partial birth abortion debate. The San Francisco judge struck down the ban partly because she thinks it is sometimes safer to kill a fetus while it is being delivered intact rather than chopping it up inside the womb. By this standard, why shouldn't it be […]

Obvious news story of the day

Let's get this straight. A federal judge in San Francisco rules that a restriction on abortion (in this case a ban on partial birth abortions) is unconstitutional. Talk about a dog-bites-man story. This ruling was as predictable as the sun risiing in the east. This, of course, is not the final word on the subject. […]

A shocking development

The Democrat-dominated California Assembly passed a bill yesterday containing the most restrictive abortion rules in the nation. The proposed law would prohibit any abortion for girls under the age of 14. Girls age 14-17 would be allowed to have an abortion only with the approval of a doctor. Yes, this sounds like something Republicans might […]

I'm confused

I'm having a hard time nailing down Sen. John Kerry on the issues. He's militantly pro-abortion, and yet he told reporters that he would consider appointing a pro-life judge, but only if it didn't tilt the Supreme Court into overturning Roe v. Wade. Kerry said he has voted in favor of "any number of judges […]
