I don’t understand

Back when I was in high school, a friend of mine named Matt Sobke spent about $3,000 on a car stereo system. Now, this was the late ‘80s, so figure that a similar system nowadays would be somewhere in the $10,000 range. Matt played bass clarinet in the band and liked to drive up and […]

A thought for today

President Obama’s got 30-some “czars” – special advisers who don’t undergo Senate confirmation and are answerable only to him – in his government. Can someone please explain intellectually how Obama can decry the so-called “unitary executive” theory while at the same time taking that same theory to heights not even conceived of by his predecessor?

What Van Jones says about Obama

If you don’t know who Van Jones is, don’t feel bad. Until late Saturday night, he was President Barack Obama’s “green jobs” czar. Jones oversaw a budget of billions of dollars, didn’t have to go through Senate confirmation and answered only to Barack Obama himself. On Saturday night, Jones resigned his position – an action […]

Small town politics

This is perhaps the best story of the year, courtesy the fine people of Jericho, Ark. It was just too much, having to return to court twice on the same day to contest yet another traffic ticket, and Fire Chief Don Payne didn't hesitate to tell the judge what he thought of the police and […]

Someone get Steny a calculator

National Review’s Mark Hemingway went to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s town hall and has an amusing report on the experience. I especially liked this bit: When one woman on Social Security disability, and obviously sympathetic to the Democrats' proposed reforms, explained that she had to drop her $400-a-month health insurance, Steny Hoyer (D-Math) explained […]

If a Republican had said it…

Can you just imagine Karl Rove or Andy Card saying this before a gathering of Republicans about Democrats in general and still having his job? Can you imagine the delight with which the mainstream media would replay this video over and over – probably not bleeping out the expletive? Yet, Obama’s “Green Jobs” Czar still […]

The public isn’t buying

I caught about 90 seconds of “The O’Reilly Factor” this evening with radio talk show host Laura Ingraham sitting in for the Irishman. Pollster Scott Rasmussen was on explaining that his tracking polls are showing that President Obama has lost not Democrats (he’s still got them), not Republicans (he never had them), but unaffiliated voters. […]

National Geographic takes on the truthers

I just got finished watching the National Geographic channel’s “9/11: Science and Conspiracy” special. Personally, I enjoyed the Popular Mechanics special more, but the Nat Geo show wasn’t so much about the science of the 9/11 attacks as it was the reaction of “truthers” to evidence that undermines their theories. If it wasn’t obvious by […]

Unbelievable

Sen. Ted Kennedy died earlier this week after serving for 47 years in his family’s apparently hereditary Senate seat. Normally, I subscribe to the admonition to not speak ill of the dead, which is why this blog made no note of Kennedy’s passing earlier. However, sometimes people write things so jaw-droppingly outrageous that I am […]

Hoystory goes to a town hall

The Twitter feed in the sidebar isn't updating, but I've been tweeting from a Town Hall in SLO. The crowd is about 70-30 anti-Obamacare. But unlike what you see on YouTube the debate is very respectful. Maybe that's because the Congresscritter isn't here to catch flak.
