Shrinking middle class

The guys over at Common Sense & Wonder have pointed out some details about a New York Times piece on the "shrinking middle class." The conclusion: Yep, the "middle class" has been shrinking -- because more people have been getting rich. The article's most egregious error is the clear implication the percentage of those defined […]

Wielding the DMCA

It comes as no surprise that when Congress passes a law as far-reaching as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act lawyers will find innovative uses for the tools provided. Some enterprising lawyers decided to use the act, which was intended to prevent people from copying DVDs, copy-protected CDs or MP3 files, to prevent the sale of […]

It's an honor to be nominated

At least that's what I'm going to say, unless I win. In that case, winning is everything. However, if I'm going to go up against Michelle Malkin, then I think I should be get a syndicated columnist gig and a book deal.

There's a better word for that

I must confess that Ron Howard's "The Paper" is one of my favorite films -- but that's probably just because I'm a journalist. One o fthe more memorable schticks in the film is a series of interactions between Michael Keaton and Howard's brother Clint. Clint is always writing some story and as Keaton walks by […]

Dirty work

John Gibson's "Big Story" on Fox News sent out reporter Heather Nauert (schwing!) to interview the wacko protesters. Which brought to mind that old, bad pick-up line: "What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?" Gibson should be ashamed of himself for sending Nauert out among those beasts.

Not just the NYT

You gotta love this

This is old news, but I'm going to resurrect it because it follows a media storyline: Kerry is a flip-flopper. John Kerry had just pumped up a huge crowd in downtown West Palm Beach, promising to make the state a battleground for his quest to oust President Bush, when a local television journalist posed the […]

Balance, kinda

Today's anti-527 editorial in The New York Times is interesting for its subtle nod toward the reality that there are some 527s who are supporting Sen. John Kerry. Campaign finance reform has accomplished a good deal in forcing the parties to rely on relatively modest individual donations. But thanks to the F.E.C., the nation's Potemkin […]
